A boat trip to see the Blue grottos in Malta is definitely worth the effort. It’s a bit of a way to get to (relatively) but we had a great time once we got there. First things first – when you arrive there’s a big car park at the top of the hill and you have to pay a couple of euros for some old guy to watch your car. There are a few shops and cafes up there and it’s worth grabbing a drink or a snack if you’re planning on spending some time there ’cause there’s nothing down the bottom.
We headed down the hill to buy our tickets – €8 per person for about an hour-long boat trip. The boats run from 0900 to 1700 in summer and 0900 to 1530 in the winter months. There were pretty big lines but they were moving fast as boatload after boatload were ferried out and around to the grottos. Each boat takes about eight people and so there is plenty of space and more than enough opportunities to see the caves and to take photos.
