I’m not entirely sure how we ended up at this place, but I’m pretty happy we did.
After an exhausting day hiking in the Rila Mountains the mounds of hearty food they served up and slapped down were exactly what we needed.
The restaurant is located up on Ulista Kozloduy – close enough to the bus and train station, and right around the corner from our our hotel. It’s worth the trek even if you’re not staying in this part of town because it’s cheap and cheerful and the food is pretty good.
The restaurant itself is made up of four old restored houses from 1866 – built around a little summer garden.
It’s sort of kitsh with traditional tat plastered on the walls and a live folk band doing the rounds in the evening time. But it’s also fun.
And while it looks like it caters mostly for tourists – when we were there, on a busy Friday night, it seemed to be packed with cheery bulgarians.
They serve up piles of national cuisine and fancy local wines, and a side for our sort of lippy/sort of friendly waitress, we couldn’t fault the place.
Check it out if you’re in Sofia. The atmosphere is cool and the food isn’t too bad either!
