Wandering, exploring, discovering...

Kelebek Special Cave Hotel

We couldn’t fault this hotel. Everything was perfect – from the transfers from the airport, to the free drinks on arrival, the super-helpful reception/concierge desk, the room, the view and the buffet breakfast.   The hotel had been recommended by just about everyone who’d heard that we were heading out to Cappadocia. Göreme isn’t the prettiest part of the region and is definitely busy and crawling with tourist shops and restaurants, but it’s central and probably the best place to stay if you’re a first-time visitor.IMG_2831

We got a deal on the room because it was winter and a further discount by paying cash. I think it was 50 euros including breakfast – but the hotel has a range of rooms catering to various budgets and needs.IMG_2844 We organised transfers through the hotel and so on arrival at the airport, there was someone waiting to whisk us away to the hotel.  It was sort of late at night and a bit of a way to the town (about 50 minutes) and so I think it was really worth the ten euros we paid for a door-to-door service.

On arrival we were escorted to our room – we’d reserved 205 and were happy with the cozy feel and the fireplace (especially since it was pretty cool with spring still a few weeks off).

After dumping our stuff we headed straight up to the restaurant for a warm drink and a view of the area. We also met the hotel’s resident pup – Whiskey.

We didn’t stay out too late after a fairly long day – so before long we retired to our room, lit the fire and called it a night.

Early the next day we got up to see whether any of the hot-air balloon companies were going to brave the wind and the weather. We decided not to go up (at this point) because it was cold and wet and at 150 euros a pop, we’d rather save it for guaranteed good weather. Fairly surprisingly, there were still a good few dozen balloons who set off around 0730, floating gracefully over the town and beyond.

It was great to see them from the warmth of the hotel restaurant while enjoying our hearty buffet breaky.

The hotel provided us with a free transfer to the Open Air Museum and was very eager and available to help us plan our stay, organise reservations and advise us on which walks to do.

For the price and facilities it’s definitely worth checking out Kelebek Special Cave hotel.View from the terrace at Kelebek Special Cave Hotel, Cappadoccia View from the terrace at Kelebek Special Cave Hotel, Cappadoccia View from the terrace at Kelebek Special Cave Hotel, Cappadoccia
