If I had my time again, I’d probably choose to stay up the mountain, closer to the Nemrut National Park.
Katha is a good hour’s drive from the peak and if you want to do a sunset back-to-back with a sunrise it’s a bit of a hard slog. Lucky there weren’t many people around and so we could tear up and down the mountain fairly quickly and easily.
I had been researching a couple of options up the mountain, but we decided to stay in the town instead to be closer to the action, in the end we went straight to bed so we could get up early and so it probably wouldn’t have mattered.
Anyway, the Kommammagene Hotel ended up being better than I had expected.
I read some very mixed reviews, many of which named and shamed the hotel’s manager.
We had no complaints with any of the staff at the hotel. They were helpful and friendly and didn’t do any hard-selling of tours or the like.
We booked another triple room for around $65.
The hotel does have a bit of a hostel vibe about it, but for what we wanted it was perfect. Breakfast was OK.
The bathroom was very clean and the shower had good pressure.
The location was OK.
We didn’t end up seeing much of Katha but from what I read there wasn’t much to see.
The hotel itself sits on the busy main road but it’s back from the street so pretty cool and quiet.
