We arrived at Mossman Gorge around 1100 after flying in to Far North Queensland early that morning.
The sun was searing and the humidity oppressive and we were looking forward to exploring the cool pools in the Gorge after a fairly long morning of travelling.
The park is run by members of the local Aboriginal community and entry costs $8.90 and buys you a return shuttle bus ride into the heart of the Gorge. You can also splash out on a Dreamtime Gorge walk with a local guide ($60) which would have been cool but we didn’t really want to spend the entire day there.
We grabbed our shuttle and headed up into the Gorge, and wasted no time in throwing ourselves into the thick, tropical Daintree rainforest.
We started off by taking the 5 kilometre loop walk through the forest. It’s pretty much what you’d expect for a rainforest and bar a few massive, old trees – wasn’t super exciting (for me, at least).
It wasn’t long before we completed the loop and got back to the fairly fast flowing Mossman River.
We dumped our things and jumped on in – flailing in the crystal clear rockpools and waterfalls.
We probably spent about an hour there, chilling out, before heading back to the car to continue on our way to Cape Tribulation.
Mossman Gorge is opened from 0800 – 1800 seven days a week (excluding Christmas day).
Shuttle busses to the heart of the Gorge leave the visitors’ centre every 15 minutes from 0800-545.
